BOS - VCarve: CNC Fundamentals

We’re sure by now you’ve heard about all the fabulous CNC (Computer Numerically Controlled) equipment at MakerPlace. The concept behind these machines is simple; create a design on your computer and the machine will cut out the design for you. Not sure where to start? We’ve set up a series of classes to help you turn your concept into a reality. 

The VCarve: CNC Software and Fundamentals class will outline the workflow of taking your vector designs through the VCarve software which will generate the g-code used by the CNC machine to cut our your design. Students will also learn the functions of different tool-paths, cutting parameters, proper tool selection, and machining strategies. This course is a prerequisite for the BOS CNC Router and the BOS Tormach CNC Mill class. 

Suggested Prerequisites:

The first thing you’ll need to know before taking this class is how to create a .DXF file. If you have no idea what a .DXF file is or how to go about creating one we would highly suggest taking the Intro to 2D Vector Graphics class first.

Please arrive 10 minutes early to complete any necessary paperwork. Our shop can be a little tricky to find so we suggest giving yourself extra time for traffic and parking.
