The purpose of this two evening class is to learn the basics of a variety of metal shop tools through the process of creating an object that you can take home.

Students will learn about measuring and marking, hand tools, electric hand tools, and how to properly operate a variety of commonly used metal shop machinery. By the end of the class, you will have a basic understanding of how metal reacts to bending, cutting, and heat. You will understand how different types of metals behave and how to choose what kind of metal you need for your specific project and how to work safely and confidently in Maker Place's metal shop.

Over the course of two evenings, we will be making a small 22 gauge steel sheet metal tray.  The standard size we will be working with will be 8” x 8” base with 2” tall walls, but adjustments may be made.  The corners will be secured using a rivet gun and manufactured rivets.

A $25 materials fee covers materials for the entire course.
