The metal shop can be an intimidating place if you're a first timer- its full of industrial materials, flying sparks, and loud equipment. MakerPlace's Intro to Metalworking class will not only ease those fears, you'll leave with a new found appreciation for the shrill sound of a grinding wheel against cold rolled steel.
Intro to Metalworking is a 2 day course that offers an in-depth introduction to the basic operation and safety of MakerPlace's metal working equipment. Learn to make sharp bends on the brake, shear metal to size, notch corners, rivet, punch round and square holes, grind, polish and much more.
Students each complete their own keepsake tray with hand rivet attached corners out of 22 gauge steel with the skills acquired in this course.
This course will be held over 2 sessions:
  • Mon February 29 from 6:00 to 8:30
  • Tues March 1 from 6:00 to 8:30

A $25 materials fee covers each student’s metal stock.

Please arrive 10 minutes early to complete any necessary paperwork. Our shop can be a little tricky to find so we suggest giving yourself extra time for traffic and parking.

**No loose or baggy clothing. Hair that is shoulder length or longer should be tied back. Please wear closed-toe shoes. No sandals**
