    This course will cover the basic safety and operation of the wood lathe. 

    Topics covered in this course include: preparing material for the spindle (chair legs, baseball bats), chuck turning (bowls, bottle stoppers), using chisels to round and shape the material, and basic finishing techniques. Other uses such as mandrel turning (pens, pencils, seam rippers, ice cream scoops) and metal spinning (copper and brass bowls, vases) will be briefly covered. 
    The first part of this course will comprise of a lecture and demonstration from the instructor- the latter part of the course will allow for hands on demonstrations.

    ** Please, no loose or baggy clothing. Hair that is shoulder length or longer should be tied back.**

    **Closed toe shoes are required.**
